Crepe Myrtle Pruning Step-by-Step

How to prune crepe myrtlesI found this article last year while looking up info on pruning my Crape Myrtles. It's a great guide for both new and experienced gardeners! Reblogging it from Southern Living for those of you who like to garden like me!  does a great job teaching you how to prune your crepe myrtles without being a 'Crepe Murderer'.

  1. Just learned of pruning the crepe myrtle - still have a lot of summer left... Can I still prune in early June?

  2. Joy, you can prune but it may delay your blooms. Blooms only come on NEW growth so you will have to prune to get plenty of new growth. Hear in the south we can let them bloom and do a second pruning and they will usually bloom again as long as we don't have an early winter!

    Good luck and happy gardening!
